Welcome to Whipton Music Club. Whipton is a suburb of Exeter, in Devon, and our meetings are held in a de-consecrated Victorian church- a wonderful and characterful venue. We welcome all types of acoustic musicians.
It is hoped that the club will provide a friendly place for people to make music for each other and enjoy a convivial evening. There is no bar, but it has been known for folk to bring their own liquid refreshment. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served in the interval. These are included in the price of admission which is £2.00.
The club meets on the second Friday of every month and and we start at 8.00pm. Everybody and anybody is welcome to attend, either as performer or audience. We have a small stage and a PA, and can accommodate about three performers on stage. Spots are ten minutes long which is usually sufficient for a couple of songs, and we can fit in sixteen spots in the evening. At the moment these are allocated on a first come first served basis.
We like to hear any type of music, as long as it falls in the general category of 'acoustic', ie played on acoustic instruments - we can't, and probably wouldn't wish to, accommodate rock bands or groups wishing to set up their own equipment-we like to keep it simple.
In the past, Whipton has served the purpose of providing beginning and nervous performers with a venue to learn in a friendly and helpful atmosphere- everybody has to start somewhere, and we hope this will continue. We do, nevertheless, wish to provide a balanced evening of music and so welcome performers of all levels.
